Here’s How I started a YouTube channel before the new year featuring lifestyle, beauty, and millennial content

Here’s How I started a YouTube channel before the new year featuring lifestyle, beauty, and millennial content in the midst of a pandemic.

The first step? Think about why you want to start.

Why Start a YouTube Channel?

People used to laugh when I said I wanted to be a YouTuber. When I was younger, it didn’t seem like an attainable goal, and I kind of let other people make me second guess whether I could do it or not even though I already had the skills. In high school, I ran the morning news show. I wrote, recorded, hosted, edited, and published the show every morning, and it was a lot, but that experience convinced me that I wanted to be on television for the rest of my life. I felt like that was my calling, and I did everything I could to get better.

I told myself that I would start my channel in college, and then in college, I told myself I would start my channel after graduation. Then after graduation, I felt like I didn’t live an interesting enough life for people to follow and I was convinced I just didn’t have the time. Now, I realize that I was only making excuses because I was afraid to fail.

Failure has never been an option for me, and I kept my reputation of being on top by hiding my riskiest pursuits so that I didn’t have to face public humiliation. I felt like failing at something I really wanted would be a massive blow to my ego and self-confidence, and I definitely wasn’t about to risk that in front of the WORLD WIDE WEB.

But I know I’m not the only person who got in their own way.

So, this year I started working on everything I’ve always wanted to do… at once. Yes, I know it’s crazy, and there’s no way I’ll perfect every avenue at the same time, but I feel like God gave me the courage to get started. I want everything he promised 16-year-old Leah back when I was writing my wildest dreams in my journal and missing out on parties for 5 am wake up calls for community service and speaking events. I’ve always felt like I was destined to use my ability to relate to people and form deeper connections by sharing my journey with those around me.

My mother always told me that if you don’t use the gifts God gave you, He will take them away.

Content You Should Share

I want to use my gifts to create the life that I’ve always dreamed of for myself. A life that creates space and opportunity for people around me and empowers other women to go for the gold and stop settling for second place. I’ve always looked up to strong women, and I’m determined to show others that we all have a fighter inside of us just waiting for you to take the leap.

This YouTube channel is a part of my self-discovery process. There’s no clear niche right now, but I’m giving myself time to figure it out. Instead of sharing the win at the end of my race, I want to take you on the journey because I’m more interested in knowing how you got there than I am about seeing how fun it is when you get to the top. WE should be reaching back and teaching others every step of the way, not only when we think we’ve got it all figured out.

That’s a Wrap and Find Gear

So, here’s my first video! I’m excited about the journey because I get to share it all with you! Subscribe and comment, so I know you’re in this with me!

Need some help getting started? I made a list of gear I recommend on my Amazon Idea List for gear, find it here.
